do u need special lights?

????

Lights allow the fish to see to swim, to eat, and to intreract with their tankmates and/or their keeper.

Some spectrums bring out the fish's natural colors, others wash out or perhaps emphasize certain colors. Some are pleasant to view (personal choice on that one), others wash out the setup.

Plants are a bit more demanding than fish, but not much. I am more demanding than either.

Hey Gumby, what type of lights do you have? They may have some markings on them. Otherwise perhaps a picture?

hey aqaunewb i have a aqau glo ang power glo light tubes,
but want to DIY some more becouse i was thinking of moving the 20 gal citizens into another new 20 gal, putting the 2 tubes on the new one, then get a roll of those reguler sized coloured globes (not the little xmas tree ones) that you hang up at xmas time, shorten them, then put some really bright ones in there and screw them to a home made plywood hood.
but do you have to have every globe a speciel one that you buy from the lfs or can you have say, half and half

Gumby,
do the lights mention the wattage of the bulbs anywhere?

Is the tank freshwater or saltwater?

Are you looking to grow live plants?

The only thing I could think of would be that they need light to produce vitamin D, but I don't think that fish do that like we do. That is done in our skin, and since scales cover fish skin...

That being said, I think fish food has the vitamin d that they need, so I would say no, they don't need special light.

thanks joephys,
hey aqaunewb they dont metion wattage but dosent matter at this point.
it is a freshwater tank
yes i want to cover the whole floor in java moss
