Manuals, for all the vehicles we own that I drive. I prefer manual for most of the driving I do, but would get an automatic if I had to deal with rush hour, stop-and-go traffic. I've owned both in the past, and prefer the manual. All the vehicles at work are automatics, though, and whenever I drive them, I have to be very careful or I end up hitting the brake at a 'shift' time--scary for passengers. ;)

I drive stick. It was a conscious decision to buy my underpowered Kia with a manual tranny so I could get every ounce of torque out of it. I think anybody who buys a little four cyclinder and wants an auto should think twice. The manual makes it MUCH quicker and therefore safer in many situations. Its not so much for the weight but for the ability to easily gear down.

My next care will be a big ol family car though and will have a 6 cylinder and an auto. I'll need my other hand to slap around blindly behind my seat at the kids while yelling "I'll turn this car right around!"

Also, once afternoon of traffic is enough for me and a tired left calf to think about automatic.

  It happened to me before! DOH!! I was driving my moms car and forgot it was automatic. I sure did scared her. "Oh, I'm sorry! This car is not manual... therefore no clutch." :thud:

Manual for the past 15 years. You can get a small engine and still get some performance out of it.

Most days I just drive the manual bicycle, though.

I drive a 5 speed Toyota Celica. My very first car was a manual too, so I learned early. Alas my next car will be an automatic. I'll replace the Celica when we have kids, as I don't think a 2 door manual will be very practical. I just can't imagine trying to get a baby into a car seat in the back seat of this car. Next car will probably be a Prius.

Auto here... I am way to absent minded to have to do that many things at once ;) !! Plus my dogs are would be helping with the shifting process if I had a manual, I'm sure of it

It can be done..we drove my old Manual Toyota Corolla 2 door hatchback when we had our first baby. Taking the carseat in and out of it was a pain, but we did it for 2 years before #2 came along. Bought our Honda CR-V at that point, because there was no way two carseats would fit in the back of the Corolla. :)

Increasingly, I am noticing that most of the only cars made manual these days are they very crappy ones, or the very expensive ones. There doesn't seem to be much in betweem anymore.

I agree whole heartedly. Cars today are made to be disposed of. You used to be able to take a carburator from a buick and put it in a chevy. Now your lucky if you can take an air cleaner from a chevy s10 and put it in a s10 limited (just a example I don't really know) Youd be hard pressed to find a vehicle today that is destined to become a classic. Granted there are 80's vehicles that are pretty good cars, but none IMHO are anything close to classic or ever will be. It's all about money and knowing the $50,000 dodge ram (canadian $) will be worth pretty much nothing in 10 years or less. Just my opinion.

In the states I drive an automatic in an 04 Durango. That is only because they don't offer a manual in that model. I wish they offered a stick.

Here in Okinawa I drive an automatic, but these cars really sux (Honda, Toyota, Nissan, etc....). I now know why I never bought a foreign piece of crap. There is nothing to them at all.
