Do you have to injected C02 into your planted tank?

You test the kH and pH and use a kH/pH/CO2 chart to determine how much CO2 you have in the tank.

The sticky is overly complicated. There is NO reason to use or need any kind of sealant when building a DIY bottle. My method is KISS. It works, it's quick, it's simple. Why do I feel like I am talking to myself?

I think I'm going to stick with 2 2L bottles until next week because I don't have the money to buy the test kit right now. Would I be ok just useing 2 2L bottle without stressing about having to much C02 in the tank? I really don't want to lose with two rams. And I should change them out every 5-7 days? Thanks for all the help...

Flourish Excel :D

...and then (i think) the amount is dependant on how much lighting and how many plants...

excel is fine for small tanks but when your talking about a bigger tank thats going to be a lot of money. if he said he doesnt have the money for test kits not going to have money for that. co2 tank over time would be the cheapest.

You will be fine. And don't worry about having too much...I don't think 2 2L bottles will produce enough to affect the fish.

I'd change 1 bottle every week, alternating them of course. That way you can hopefully get the CO2 production as consistent as you can.

I'd love to have pressurized CO2 on all my tanks, but its just not possible. DIY is the next best thing on larger tanks and while its not nearly as stable, it will do some good. Just remember to change the bottles often. I'm guilty of not changing mine for a few weeks....doesn't do the plants any good. ;) I have DIY on my 3 planted tanks now...I need to stock up on the sugar! I always run out...another reason why I don't change the bottles enough.

Good luck!

I have to 2 2L bottles set up and there both pumping in C02. I have a check valve on both and a bubble stone on both. The thing is there is like 3 or 4 or 5 bubbles a second....is that bad? There pretty small bubbles but I want to make sure its not a bad thing. I don't want to lose any fish over this....I only have 2 long fin blue rams in the tank but they are very sensitive.

My tank is getting pretty heavy planted and I wanted to know if I'm still suppose to clean the gravel with the gravelvac? Or do I just change out the water? About 25% a week?
