aquariumfishguy said:Cali may not have "seasons", but they do get rain occasionally. This year is unusual, and shouldn't be considered the norm climate for that area. It is usually dry, and so their 70*F. feels like our 80. People who have never been out west look at 70*F. as “chilly”, but you’d have to experience it for yourself to understand how different it truly feels out west compared to the humid east.
Anyway their wet season is around late October and only last a couple months… then it is back to dry air! Do I sound ready to pack my bags yet?![]()
Dry heat is truly bizarre. If you've ever heard someone say things like one hundred degrees in the shade, that's usually a reference to dry heat. In humid climes, you simply need some air moving and a little shade to cool off, as the humidity, dark and wind blowing and evaporating said humidity, it lowers your temp quickly on your skin.
However, out here in the Texas desert, we get winds from the southwest (Mexico's dry desert air) pushing in on us. When it's 110 outside and the wind is from the southwest at 5-10mph you can pretty much guarantee it's about 108 in the shade and every breath you take is hot. On those days, i stick my head in the freezer a couple minutes to cool off between outisde chores. Someone once quipped that we have four seasons here in Texas: Hot, **** Hot, Football and Deer. I tend to agree.
PS: 75 degrees and still not 3 pm yet... This IS winter, right?
