overstocked. common pleco will out grow your tank. they get to be 26 inch long.

hi
i know plecos may grow to be 26 in. but mine is still 3 in. so i have a plenty of time enjoying this community.

best regards

no, in optimal conditions they get about 12 inches in 2 months, least mine did

imo, i think u are fine for the time being... but, if u plan on keeping them in a 20g for life, it obviously wont work out. :)

I have had mine for over three years and he isn't but maybe eight inches. You have time. He isn't going to shoot to a foot overnight.

Happy New Year!! :bday:

YES! Way overstocked! A 20 gallon aquarium is way to small for clown loaches or a common pleco.

I think it's irresponsible that fish stores sell so many common plecos to anyone. I mean how many of thier customers actually have 150 gallon tanks to accomodate a full grown pleco?? Probably less than 1 %. They should stock more smaller species like Gold Nuggets, Candy stripe, and Bristlenoses, and less Commons.

The reason all these people end up with plecos in small tanks is because the fish stores won't tell anyone how big they get. :duh:

I bought mine three years ago because I didn't know any better.

I would sell him, but my son (he's five) would never forgive me.

I do weekly large water changes and everything stay great.
