Do you use aquarium salt?

what for do you mean as a treatment for a desiese? for specific fish or for a salt water set up?

i use a small amount when i do full heavy cleaning and use it and high tank temps for ick treatment ...other than that no ...i only use it when i clean out and completly break down the tank ...just a precaution, some people say theres no need it just makes me feel better but it works great for ick the only other treatment i use for ick is melafix but i use that for tank cganges as well sometimes ..just depends

Yes, I use a very small amount (like one teaspoon per 10 gallons) of Kosher salt. I subscribe to the theory that simple organisms like bacteria have a much more difficult time dealing with a trace of salt than fresh water fish do. Also my well water is very low in mineral content for some reason, such that adding a bit of sodium is a plus.

I may be missing something here, but the way the question was asked I feel that Gambusia was asking if anyone use salt for there aquariums, correct me if I am wrong Gambusia .If that is the case everyone answering no has a reason , again correct me if I am wrong for those who answered no.

This is a quote from Daveedka's Ich article Quote"Salt is by far my preferred method of treatment, it is less expensive, far less stressful and every bit as effective as ICH meds. Furthermore it is not affected by organic carbon levels which to me makes it more reliable. Filter carbon will not remove salt from the water so if you are using it you do not need to remove it as you do with meds.
As far as what type of salt, you need NaCl. I use table salt, many folks use pickling or canning salt. Iodized salt has never been harmful to my fish, The levels of iodide and other agents are too minute to be a factor. Freshwater aquarium salt is also NaCl as a rule, but is usually more expensive. The only thing I would caution against would be Marine salt mixes for saltwater tanks as they contain many things unnecessary for the treatment of ich, and stand a good chance of changing water chemistry." End quote.

So if you are asking if people use salt in thier aquariums ,the answer is yes and it is ordinary table salt, but only to treat when a fish becomes sick ect, jmo but using salt on an ongoing basis is generaly not needed. But if you were only asking if it is ok to use aquarium salt then forget what I just said.
