Hi guys,

Does my new betta Fuego, have dropsy?

Or is he a dragon scale betta?

Thanks,

I don't know much about aquarium diseases, but based on a little Googling, it would probably be easier for the pros to tell based on a side and/or more direct top view of him if you can manage. Good luck.

Thanks! I will try to get a better picture and/or video!

I took a short video of Fuego while he was eating this morning! Can you tell yet from the video or picture if he does have dropsy?

Many thanks,
Patty

Could he be a "dragon scale" or "pearl scale"? I'm not really sure what either means exactly. It doesn't look like dropsy to me unless it's just the very beginning.

I agree that it doesn't look exactly like dropsy. However, he is not swimming normally and that concerns me. There might be something going on, but its hard to say for sure.

Does he poo normally? Could he be constipated? You might try a cooked pea, just the "guts" not the outer shell, in tiny bite size bits...if he'll try it. It may help to skip a meal or 2 so he's hungry.

That betta looks:

a) fat
b) bloated
c) fat AND bloated

I don't necessarily think dropsy, and he would be showing signs. Fast the little bugger and/or try shelled peas (no shell, just the cooked up and cooled off guts, as suggested above).

Yeah, watched the vid a few more times. I don't think he's sick, and he looks pretty darned healthy swimming around in there otherwise. I would definitely monitor for other symptoms, but it looks like constipation, bloat, or fat to me.
