Does my Tiger Barb look fat to you?

But not pregnant, even if a female. They're egglayers, there is no stage in their lifecycle which can remotely be called "pregnancy".

Looks great! I have one that looks the same way.

It's not a matter of terminology. "Pregnant" implies that eggs or fry are developing in the female; this doesn't happen in egglayers. There is therefore no stage which can remotely be called "pregnant", unless you also use the term to describe human females between ovulation and menstruation every month.

That's why I raise it. I think that using the word invites a misunderstanding of fish reproduction.

Consider birds. Birds mate, the eggs start to develop in the female, and she later lays them. I can imagine why you might call the stage between mating and laying the eggs "pregnant". Using the term of fishes invites the misunderstanding that they reproduce the same way. They don't. There is no period between mating and laying eggs; the two are the same thing in fish.

I know, was just being sarcastic. I keep seeing the say thing all the time on these "POSTS". ---I think my fish are pregnant", ect.

I understand--they are egg bound, or full of roe.

I just roll with the post.
