Does this annoy you?

Problem is that you're always wrong. I know this because I'm always right.

Annoys me no more then the threads of people *****ing about people not using search functions.
Not as much as it annoys for no reason other than to be unpleasant, which is definably working by the way.

I bet that at least some of the people who do this HAVE searched, and are just looking for some kind of reassurance. They want people to post what they've done, what's worked in their experience, sometimes to consider the unique properties of their tank such as their tank size and stocking.
That makes sense and is a good reason. Especially when lives are in danger. I've been told things a time or two that didn't sound plausible but turned out they were but I still wanted to check. Lives in danger, I meant medication questions, etc. I've asked a time or two if people were sure that salt is okay and if their fish survived treatment when I keep seeing debates about it all over the internet.
I'm kind of surprised to see you posting this, since sometimes it seems to me like you do this! The other day you asked if marmokrebs could be kept with snails. I was pretty sure they couldn't be, since in general crayfish eat everything (plants, snails and other fish) and Googling marmokrebs and snails gave me a pretty clear and unanimous answer.
I didn't know if crayfish, especially marmorkrebs, could eat snails since they have that cover flap. Some one even posted an answer saying they doubted they could eat snails with cover flaps, or whatever the technical term is. I did search "marmorkrebs and snails" and "marble crayfish and snails". And I guess I should have been more specific in my original post on this thread, I meant without utilizing the search feature of the forum in question, not Google or other sources. A lot of random sources give faulty information that isn't reliable. Forums tend to be more accurate, at least in my experience.

So to answer the question your thread poses....no, it doesn't really bother me, I don't always assume people haven't read or tried to search before. I actually assume they have, and just want to discuss it further, just like the people who ask "what should I put in my ___insert size of tank here____ with my ___insert type(s) of fish here___?"
Good point.

My favorites are the ones who ask questions and ignore everyone who posts except the person who remotely gives them the answer they want.
The answer they want or the answer that they felt addressed their question? Some times people's replies make them look like they didn't even bother to read the question. I guess it's better to ignore than to fight.

Can even search for fertilizer stuff to....
Can't even make sense.... Or post any significant comments... Since there were no search results that I could turn up that addressed my question...

I guess I don't have a problem with people asking repeat questions on certain things since some things are difficult to get a straight answer on. Plus I trust the majority of opinions/solutions that people have here
Another good point. Like the repeating "is copper safe for inverts" question. I haven't really seen an answer yet that gives conclusive answers as to whether it should be supplied but in low amounts, and if so, how much, or if it should just be avoided all together, and if it's safe in certain forms, etc.

Lo and behold, the first search result under "transporting fish", was a post that YOU made, followed by pages of older posts that would have answered both your question and mine.
I guess you did better than I did, then.

On the other hand, what peeves me are people who contradict good, solid advice with other advice based on a particular tank type that is completely inapplicable to the current situation. I mean really, how applicable is experience in a walstead tank in discussing the water change regimen for a plantless African Cichlid tank?
That brought to mind jetajockey's comment,

What I mean is, maybe people are ignoring answers that they felt aren't applicable to their question.

I own / admin a couple forums and moderate a few others and have for over 10 yrs. It never changes. People want the answers and dont want to have to "waste their time" with silly stuff like the search function. I find it annoying. It is pure laziness.
Laziness... I wouldn't know anything about that...

I like to immediately respond to and answer my own questions. I find it very helpful and I appreciate it very much.
But only when you answer them correctly, right?

Maybe it's just me, but since the site makeover a few months back, the Advanced Search function is a real pain to use.... it's not particularly intuitive or user-friendly.

Not trying to be a jerk by saying that, just my advice based on spending WAY too much time being annoyed by similar things. Decided it wasn't worth the investment.

Perhaps, but it still ended up being a point in favor of using the search function as opposed to posting a new thread. I got no responses to the thread I posted, but was able to find my answer by searching for it. But I still think it's a waste of time and energy to let yourself get annoyed by people that are just looking for a little help, when you can just as easily just ignore the threads.

I've noticed that for some reason from my computer, I have to do an advanced search, or it won't even load any results. But I don't know that it's the website, so much as Firefox 4 being wonky. It does a serious number on Facebook too. However, it's really no excuse, because the advanced search does me just fine.

I fully agree. I also base this on my personal experience getting seriously annoyed, even all out angry, over things online that when you really stop to think about them, don't really matter in the slightest.

It doesn't annoy me to be asked a question that's already been asked. I usually know the answer to those questions and feel confident answering them. What annoys me is when I notice a question being ignored, I will try to answer it to the best of my ability. Then when others don't agree with your advice, they belittle you. I always start these answers with " in my opinion" or " I'm not sure, but this is what I would do". People come here for good, sound advice. If I'm unsure, I tell them that and hope for someone with more knowledge to come along and correct me if I'm wrong or there is a better way to do it. I don't expect to be bashed for answering a question no one else could bother to answer. sure, people should do their own research, but sometimes they need the answer quick. Why do we join these forums, if it's not to help others? For the most part, I've found this forum to be friendly, but there have been times when I left here feeling belittled for trying to help someone. I am no expert and never claimed to be, but I have had aquariums for almost 40 years. My tanks are all running nice with happy inhabitants. I love giving and recieving advice.

I hate the idiots that give you an answer that either A) is completely wrong, B) they have no personal experience on which to base it C) give a 2 page dissertation on their opinion that has nothing to do with the question asked, and D) repeat the same drivel that was given by the previous answer as if it "proves" they have the knowledge.
