My tanks is only about a month and half old and my Golden Apple snails that I bought at Walmart left me a clutch last night. :thm: I am so excited! It is a little one but that is fine by me. Maybe you will get lucky soon Don Won.

i have a dozen clutches right now Reframer. you want me to mail you half of them? you'd end up with about 600 babies........hahaha!

Lol, I guess it's just that I want my brigs to lay a clutch so I know they are doing well. If it really happened, I probably woudn't know what to do with it anyhow. If I had my way I would have a tank for baby brigs but just don't have the space a the moment, thanks though.

i meant that as a joke, lol, i don't think you really wanted to have approx 600 baby snails to care for on your first go round of shellkids.

as long as you are overfeeding just a tad with the right foods for a snail, keeping the water level down an inch or two, keeping the water and tank clean via water changes & vacc'ing, etc your briggs are most likely going to lay eggs if you know you have a male and female.

one thing that may be a factor for me is that i keep my tank a lil on the warm side, between 78 and 80. i do realize that this warmer temp will speed up the life cycle of a snail somewhat, but it is also what seems to induce them to breed in my tank (i have kept briggs at a lower temp in another tank and not had any clutches laid for a couple months).

No I don't have a picture Don, tonight I will be doing my weekly water change and maybe I can get a shot of it. This thing is smaller than I expected. I am guessing maybe 40 eggs, which is way too many for me. I am going to leave it where she left it and hope for the best. There are no fish in the tank to eat the babies so I will just let them hatch and fall. Don, my snails have been (wrestling) :) just like yours for two weeks and they finally laid a clutch, yours might too soon.

Another thing you can do too is just cut away a portion of the clutch that you don't want and then just hatch out the number that you can manage.

Mine wrestle like crazy and the temp is not high, but I'm beginning to think the water softener salt might be bothering them or something.

Reframer, salt is not good for snails, low ph is not good for snails. far as i know, water softeners cause low ph. you are supplementing with calcium to combat shell erosion? maybe find a source of water that is not softened, maybe the tap on the outside of your house instead of the faucet on any sink inside your house.

Moesmom, whatever amount of snails you estimate will come out of a single clutch, times that by at least two, and that will most likely be the number that actually hatch out, lol, trust me, this i know!
