i could never get mine to work... the directions weren't very detailed and i put it down to not working because my tank was pretty small (12 gal)

i see you can use these for water changes too? how? what i was doing was taking off the whole top, dunking a bucket, and running it to the bathroom (not far). which you can imagine, was sloppy to say the least. someone shed some light please. (and don't laugh) =P

no, just the plastic kind you buy at petsmart. it's a clear plastic tube conected to a hard plastic part you used to go over the gravel with

you need to dunk the vac in the tank, turn it upside down so it fills with water, and then turn it rightside up and pump it in and out of the water to create a siphon. didn't it come with instructions?

since the tank is a smaller one, you might want to forego the "Python" as personally, I think it would be more of a hassle than anything. What you can do though is get tubing, thinker than airline tubing and syphon the water into the bucket instead of taking the whole top off and dunking it in. I would imagine that though there is still the lugging back & forth to the bathroom, it removes the inconvenience of removing the hood and all that.

I just give the hose end a quick suck until I see water come up over the rim of the tank, then get out of the way and let the water siphon into a bucket.

why don't u just get a normal siphoner, one that u suck up the water with thruogh a tube nad dump in a bucket? much easier
