driftwood from a river

It was really risky putting that into your tank so soon. Chemicals soaked into the wood take a lot of time (boiling/baking, bleaching and soaking) to be rid of. Even if you rinsed it and sun dried it, it is still posing a threat to your fish. Bark should be taken off as well. Nothing will thrive from rotting wood in your aquarium.

Just keep an eye on it. The best pieces of wood to grab are ones already sun-dried, quite literally driftwood. Uprooting a specimen from the water itself just doesn't seem safe for your fish.

Good luck and keep us posted. I'm currently in the soaking stage of a few pieces myself, and the damned things are just refusing to sink, but I'm being patient because of the leaking tannins and possible hitch-hiker organisms. Ah well.
