Driftwood question

Hi,

Last night I picked up a nice piece of driftwood at the LFS. It was cool because the large pieces were cheaper than the medium size! Anyway, I have a 40 W bulb over my 55 gallon tank. I am thinking of adding few java fern plants, java moss and/or anubias to the tank.

But the piece of driftwood looks cool and I am slightly afraid that if plants overgrew it, it wouldn't look so cool.
Has anyone else found that to be true, or do most of you think the plants make the wood look better?

Would these plants grow too slowly for this to be a problem? Or should I just get a few small ugly pieces and add the plants to them?

Thanks.

It would be easier to say if we saw the driftwood piece. But just keep the plants trimmed back if it becomes an issue.

You can always change things around. Try to get a picture in your head of what you want and plan accordingly. Draw it on paper too if it helps. I go with a general idea and work from there. If the wood will be the centerpiece then get that set first. Take pictures. Turn it all different ways until one position clicks. Consider the kinds of fish you will have and plan for them too. If you get shoaling fish be sure to leave an open area in the front for them to swim back and forth in. If you get fish that like a hidey hole then plan for that. Get all your hardscape set with the idea of the plants you want and remember plants grow.

I have moss growing on my drift wood. Every week or so I just pull as much off as possible and give it away or trash it. It is not a problem, I like some Java moss on it just not covering it.

An Anubius will not grow too fast so if you do not like it pull it off and put it some where else.
