I just ordered a weighted piece of driftwood specifically designed for aquariums but my LFS told me driftwood drastically lowers the Ph of the water. Has anyone else heard of this?
boil it and keep changing out the brown water untill you get clear water. mine took about 12 hours. PH usually 7.1-7.2 a week after the driftwood is in, 7.0 and I have a small tank... so it wont be drastic at all, and will acually be good for your fish.
I didn't know the brown water was "good" for the fish, so I soaked mine in a bucket for three or four days and changed the water every day or two when it got dark. That way, when I finally put it in my tank, I didn't have to worry about it changing the color of everything. It worked pretty well for me, but I didn't know that the coloration was good for the fish or I might not have gone through the trouble.
