I think that PETA should stand for People Eating Tasty Animals.

lol thats great

I feel bad for the fish. All of that alteration takes place when they're awake. No pain supressants, just agonizing pain...

On a side note, aren't the head growths genetic?

Psst Roan- Love the new avatar!! I STILL have to read "Rainbow Fish" to my daughter! :)
Thanks :)

It's one of Connor's favorite books. If you get a chance, pick up "Fish is Fish" by Leo Lionni. For ages 4-8

It's a really cool book about a fish who sees everything as -- fish. Birds are flying fish, people are fish that walk and so on. Great book!

lousybreed, some of the goldfish have air injected under their scales, It's not really widely known but my LFS has heard of the practice, some of the sleeker goldfish are nice but others....I dont care for the bubble eye or bubblehead. I feel sorry for them..

Well mister, they are not ugly at all. All fish have different kind of look, you cant say whether one of them have the best look, they are all of different kind. For example if you like goldfish, would you like someone to say it is ugly?
Who cares about surviving in the wild? They are petfish and made to be raised at home, not in the wild. Why would anyone care if they survive in the wild or not, what? you are going to live in wild with them? If you expect anything to survive in the wild, then dont buy petfish. Just go dive in one of those lake and live with those fish. Whats so hard of accepting blood parrot in your life? They are going to harm you? or they are going to make your life so bad? Like there are no other hybrid animal, think! Even some dog are hybrid.
COMPLETELY agreed.

they're hideous and deformed, and people actually PRIZE these debilitating, ugly mutations

okay, ew. i'm sorry for people who keep these fish, but the can the black one even SEE???

The black one cant see. (Luckily they still have their lateral line and can navigate to some extent. Look up the blind cave fish for an idea.) As to all of this, I dont have much of a problem with hybridization. Sticking needles and injecting dyes into the spinal columns of fish is what I have a problem with. (Spinal tap, anyone?)

not to mention the acid dip to remove slime coat...
