Jerico, I started out with feeder goldfish. I loved them, but, aside from needing a Very large tank, or a pond, the problem with feeders is they arent very healthy, as a rule.
I had several die before ending up with my keepers.
IMO there are plusses to begining with feeders, but ease of keeping isnt one of them.
My first warm water tank had zebra danios but i found them Too frantic for my tastes. there was one particularly obnoxious fellow that i tried to feed to my goldfish. Even though the GFwere Several times his size, And in an unheated tank, that little danio lived in there, keeping the godlfish in line, for close to a year *S
White cloud minnows are Awesome! I got "corrected' for keeping mine in an unheated tank, and advised to use a heater just to keep the temp more stable. depends on circumstances.
I think they are a great begginer fish. they are active but not maniacs, they display and interact in cool ways. and with a little jave fern, have plenty of babies *s
hard to beat bettas. although it seems like people went out of their way to find ways to kill the tough little buggers. (people have been told to keep them without heat, filtration, food, heck, practically without water.)
