you could try another dwarf cichlid but I would only do that after you have breed something else first.

You could do cories. Aeneus, pandas, or paleatus would be easiest beginner cories to breed with. They breed most readily, especially the pandas and the albino aeneus.

Trilineatus seem to be easier to breed too, but the 3 above are even easier.

Corydoras pygmaeus are said to breed readily in captivity too, and could live full time in the 10 gallon... larger cories maybe better to just do a rearing tank with the 10 and full time living for your permanent shoal in the 20.

I wouldn't opt for the pygmaeus right from the start for breeding just because theyre much smaller than the larger cories, the fry may be harder to rear to get started with.

if it can be aquatic animals, not just fish, and they are legal for you, try marmokrebs
 
Oh boy then yeah dont get into breeding lol lots of water changes. But keeping bare bottom for fry rearing makes it a bit easier.

Rearing fry means daily water changes.

Second, community breeding doesnt work out often as fry and eggs will be eaten if left with the parents in most cases. Some fish are more likely than others.

Eggs have to be removed or other fish have to be moved to be raised separately or they risk being eaten.

Then to grow properly, the water has to be changed daily to keep it clean and to remove the growth inhibiting hormones that growing fish often emit into the water.

Ahahaha well if thats the case, using the 10g as a breeding/rearing tank wont be an issue.

Have a secondary sponge filter running in your 20 gallon. When you want to breed the fish, move the filter to the 10g and the fish you want to breed. Let them lay eggs (however they do, depends what you breed) and move the fish back to the 20.

You shouldnt really need to scrub algae off the 10g. Even if you get some algae, its okay in the rearing tank. As long as its not cyanobacteria but thats not an algae.
Otherwise, i wouldn't worry about diatom algae, hair algae, green spot, etc.

okay. I just went looking for the sponge filter. I have a huge bin of fish supplies, mostly from my dad. I couldn't find either sponge filter :(. I guess I will have two order some new ones.
