Well you can't see them but in the background I have some Blackberry, Raspberry and Wineberry bushes that I pick berries from to feed to my turtles during the summer. You can pick up some strawberry plants from a nursery and plant them in your enclosure. They will provide food and shelter for your turtles. What I've been meaning to get is a nice dwarf blueberry bush to plant in my pen.

Looking good VF. We just put the plant order in, I got a few strawberry bushes and a lowbuch blueberry to put in the pen. I might move a hosta over for shade, and I'm going to transplant some ferns as well.

That's a very nice setup, Vicious.

If you want your blueberries to thrive they need acidic soil; pack peat or pine straw around the roots or feed with a rhododendron and azalea fertilizer. I have to really baby them because I live in a karst area, nothing but limestone for miles and miles.

no good for plants, but good for whiskey ;)

Thanks man. You'll definitely have to post some updated pics of your box turtle enclosure when you're done. That hosta I planted in there is some tall variety that does a good job at providing shade. It's also very hardy because my turtles love to dig and bury themselves right under it and they've yet to kill it!

Thanks Notophthalmus, I'll keep that in mind. Where I live all we have is basically limestone deposits around us. I was going to just go up into the mountains near me and dig up a wild blueberry because they're all over the place but I think a nursery bred variety might be more hardy and forgiving.

Yeah we have probably 2 dozen plants around the farm of that same variety, easy to dig one up and split it.

As of now the turtle is in a 60 gallon terrarium.. i believe its 3 feet by 2 feet by aroundd 2 feet. Its quite small right now, im guessing around the size of the bottom of a water bottle. Should i mix half the pine chips i have now with half of the bed a beast? and will regular potting soil be fine for the burrowing portion?
