Eclipse hood

If I have 12 pounds of LR in a 12G does that mean I really have no need for the filter? I am confused about some of the previous statements. I have a 12G eclipse and am trying to eliminate the hood all together and make an acrylic cap with cut outs for a HOB Filter and HOB Skimmer... but if LR is the equivilent of a filter let me know...

That is correct...i always work on 1 - 1.5lbs of live rock per gallon of water, so, no, you dont need to have a filter on the system if you dont want one...
