I bought off ebay and emailed the seller on whats going on. I finally got it primed and then water started coming out where the top meets the base. Any pointers?

I am misssing the fine filter pad which I was told might make the seal offset. Im going to buy the pad and start over. I also ordered a new gasket, O rings, sealing rings and vaseline in case it's needed.
I was looking at the parts diogram.
Do you know where the input connector goes? http://www.eheimparts.com/client/homepage.aspx 7342200
Does this part connect the lid hole to the basket hole?

I reset the gasket and checked for any gaps and started it up again. The leak now looks like its coming out of the double tap unit, and less out of where the base meets the lid. I did not put any lube anywhere since I don't have anything that I know will work. Any suggestions for sealent or lube?

on mine the input is a larger hose it connects to the bottom, theres another connection @ bottom for reverse flushing the unit. The output hose coes out from top to spraybar. vaselene hmm I didn't know about that maybe that can be used for a sealer but i'de look it up 1st on yahoo or google .it should be safe the inventor of vaselene petroleum jelly ate a teaspoon every day of his life till a ripe old age.( I guess you could say he was pretty regular)

The vaseline is what Ehiem calls it, not sure if it's the same as our vasoline. I'm sure it's fine for fish if they sell it for lube.

I used vaseline on my filter too once. Found out it wasn't a good idea. No problem to the tank, but I think petroleum breaks down plastic or rubber eventually. I don't remember exactly, but it was suggested that I use KY jelly I believe.

However, you're buying it from Eheim so I'm sure it's ok to use.

3 things!

First, be CERTAIN you did not overload the baskets, better to be 1/4" low than 1/32" high.

Second, the connector goes attached to the base of the head. The rubber gasket may tend to stick to the connector at the head, so everytime you open it you need to pull it out and put the rubber part back onto the basket because the rubber gaskets are likely to warp and seat badly if you leave it on the connector at the head.

Third, be sure the two baskets are in the right spot, I found that one basket is ever so slightly smaller than the other, that is the lower basket, it is easy to mix that up when you first load them and then the bottom basket does not fit quite right. So, test, remove both baskets, then put one in then try the other to see which fits lower into the canister, that fraction of an inch makes a difference.

Also, do not use Vaseline from the drugstore, but the Eheim stuff is fine. I buy slicone lube from the pet stores for o-rings and such. Yes, it will harden the rubber.

Sad to admit that I've done ALL of these things....
and I cracked the impellor cover also, when I overfilled the basket, and it warped the basket but that relaxed eventually.

Never had a leak from the input connector, but I am suspecting overfilling might cause that. Guessing, though.

I don't believe I have the input connector. Looking at the bottom of the lid I have the prime circle, with impeller in the middle of that, and a hole which goes to the outlet pipe. Is this a loose fitting peice that goes into that hole??? If so then it's MIA!

Thanks for all the great information. I will double check everything listed. :)

When I got my Eheim Pro2 used, the original owner came over to set it up. I noticed it had no connector and she said it never did, so I just figured it was a different design than my newer 2126 thermo.

I later found the connector jammed in between the two baskets. Apparently the upper basket was put in, then the lower basket on top. Unfortunately it took me almost 3 months to notice it and I lost over 1/3 of the fish in the tank trying to locate a spare part.

Look for a short stubby pipe, about 1.5 inches long. One side fits into that hole in the head, perfectly, the other side is ever so slightly larger I think (not looking at it). It can be stuck to the head or to the baskets.

Without that part, the water just skips the entire filter media and goes back to the tank. I only realized it at the first 2 month cleaning when I opened the unit and saw only the top 1/4" of the white pad was dirty, the rest of the pad and all media was clean.

I will look for that connector, hopefully it is stuck somewhere and not gone. i am sorry you lost your fish...that sucks

It seems like you had every problem in the book, :) but if it wasn't for your problems...i would of launched this thing out the window by now, lol
