Eheim 2026 leaking!

Just want to say do not use Vaseline in your filter. Vaseline is a petroleum product and will break down any rubber it comes in contact with (i.e. your seals). That is why you should not use Vaseline with condoms... Use a water-based product that is safe for the fish.

Ok so i found the missing input connecter on the bottom basket. Then I figured I had them bckwards like you sed so I re arranged and di not overload. I put it all together and it's still leaking out of the double tap unit! Darn it....Do you think i should buy a whole new double tap unit or new seals????

i bought the silicone and lubed the rings and the gasket up....still leaking but slower. Water is defianlty coming out of the left double tap connector. I pulled them out and they look fine, no cracks or anything. Re lubed but it's still leaking ut the tap. Any suggestions?

sounds like you probably have an early production unit of this model. ehiem has since reissued a 'fixed' double-tap unit because this sort of leakage is confirmed as a known issue.

remove your double-tap unit and see if there if the lever in the middle is made of RED plastic. if not, you got an older unit. contact eheim for a replacement.

Ok I have a eheim 2217 and I am confused as to what a double tap is. And with Nvision saying that there are known issues I probably should know what it is so I can check mine. Is it the quick disconects?

i meant this,

that red piece in the middle is in the newer units ehiem issued.

Yep, mine is grey(the bad one) :(!!! Thanks for the picture, helps when you can see it. I wonder why the old owner of this filter would have no problems for two years and when I try to set it up....it's leaking!
How do I contact Eheim? They don't answer emails as I have emailed them 4 days ago!

try to get a new seal that is the black rubber O ring inside about an inch 4 my unit. I got one a tad smaller for 40 cents from hardwear store ,I noticed the rubber was a bit softer wich may have helped it fit the slightly larger size. I took a sample as my unit had 2 double taps (1 is a backflush) Now I mean @ the bottom of unit not like the picture above. if this is where you mean, there is an on off little tap where the unit can be quickly empty'd from without moveing any connected hoses. Sorry if i'm off topic
