the eheims are cheaper, and i see that the fluval have 6 stages of filtration, versus the 3 of the eheim. from what i read, the fluval are much better.
eheim 2215 VS fluval 305. HELP?!?

You are looking at the wrong eheims, try looking at the pro range of filters. I have had both fluvals and eheims and the eheims are much better.
Not wanting to add to the argument, but I have a 305 and have had no problems. It would be nice to have an Escalade pickup but I'll settle for my Avalanche. Good luck in your choice.

From the official comparison chart it appears that the Fuval 305 edges out the Eheim 2215 in pluming diameter, media volume, GPH, even less watts of power. That's allot of pluses for the Fluval which is being touted here as inferior.

Look at it this way... I'm still using an eheim 2213, from 1986, and have NEVER replaced a part.
but i dnt need a filter that will last me a million years. i want a good filter. and from that little chart, it seems as if the fluval is worth it.
I have a fluval 405 and several fx5's and cant find one complaint great filters good prices and parts are very easy to find just about anywhere even though i havent had to replace any parts.
I actually just bought a 2215 this week, first impressions are good. I bought used, but it still looks like new. I used to have a fluval 405 on my saltwater tank. The thing that I hated most about it was that you can't see inside the canister like you can on the eheims. I was always afraid that when I stuck my hand down in that black bucket some giant mutated bristleworm would bite it off. Never actually happened but . . . . .
Fluval build quality seems lower than that of the Eheims. But the Eheim is German, so I guess thats to be expected. I never had any mechanical issues with my fluval though, so I can't really tell you not to get one based on reliability.
