I don't know, maybe I've gotten slow in the last 30 years, maybe a HoB filter is more my speed?! I took the Eheim out of the box, washed the filter media like the directions said and put it all back and closed filter. Then after that it's all a mess, the directions aren't super clear! At this point in time I need CLEAR directions. What the pictures show and what they say are 2 different things. If it wasn't 10pm I'd ring my neighbors bell and drag him here and make him do it. I also filled the tank up almost half way and planted some plants that came from Bob's today,(got something extra but that's for the plant posting). Also the tubing doesn't seem like it's going to be long enough, for the upside down J shaped plastic rod that you put the basket thing on the bottom. Obviously I know it goes into the tank, but I just can't figure out how the rest goes. I mean I kind of have half figured out and then the rest doesn't seem to go!
OK, a homemade cheesecake to anyone in Brooklyn,NY who'll put this thing together for me,LOL!

The long part of the J tube goes into the tank.
What are you specifically having trouble with?
Here is a pic of my 2217 hope it helps a little.

Eheim

I hope my losy drawing helps somewhat!

After setting up Eheim and made all connections (make sure to use all the clamps provided by Eheim, separate double tap valves(A) in the center.
Suck hard on the valve attached to the filter and you hear water filling the cannister.
Reconnect double tap valves fast and waatch the bubble comming out of spray bar as canister is filled, pushing out air.
Anytime you made an error, just shutt off any/all valves. such will stop from flooding the floor.
When bubble stop, sway the canister gently and plug in. Sway it gently again. This should get you going.

494 and 594 should be specified on the green tubing.

LMK if need further assitance.

btw, how was it in Brooklyn by what I thought was hurricane/tornado that swept thru part of Queens this late afternoon?
In matter of 15 to 30 seconds, my whole block was blocked off by broken fallen trees/limbs. TG no one got hurt.
Hope all are well in Brooklyn.

Thank you all, I reeeeaaaaaalllly appreciate it! I'm going to try again when I get home from work. I jut couldn't get it, maybe just brain dead, it was late for me I'm up at 3:45am everyday for work, maybeee that was it, I hope:)
Mott thanks for that picture it is a help:)
Cerianthus, it was bad by us, I'm in Bensonhurst. Got dark windy and started pouring like crazy. My neighbors friend got his roof ripped off by the tornedo!!! I think he was in Park Slope somehwhere, we definately didn't get anything as bad.

Cerianthus, by the was the pic is great, thanks:))

You'll love the Eheim Classic. Good Luck!

More than dozen cars got crushed by the fallen trees/trunks/limbs/branches in one block. From what i heard , pretty bad (worse than my block) thru out Freshmeadows and Bayside. Hope no one seriously got hurt from this very uncommon blast (never seen such in Queens/City in my entire life).

Eheim instructions are extremely vague. The fantastic input from AC Eheim owners simplify the set up. I messed up when setting up my 2217 by not removing the circular cardboard cannister packing liner which went unoticed during setup.Several months later I noticed the filter was contaminated by the disintegrating cardboard and required complete cleaning of all media and resulted in a Lengthy mini cycle[23 days of 50% water changes]Perhaps I was extra stupid for not noticing the cardboard liner but I was a newbie and the vague instructions along with the cardboard liner appearing to be a integral part of the cannister fooled me. I may have been the first and only 2217 owner to experience this error.

RainbowC. I'm hav'n trouble with mostly all, mostly all...
But I'll be trying again in a bit, I have an air hose in there for the plants. I did get everything put in right thank god!

Fallen Angel, believe me that sounds like the best idea, he's not around at the moment or I would have given him a huge hint! I'm picking up some filter media from a friend on Sunday, she said if I don't get it just bring it over and she'll show me what I'm missing,LOL, this is awful! It didn't really say what to do with the valves, but the pictures everyone put up is verrrry helpful.
Briar14...OMG! I think I'd flip if I did that, what a mess that must have been. did it hurt any of your fish?
