Eheim vs Marineland Canister Filters

Keep your current filtration and look into adding the Rena XP3 filter. Great for the price and does a great job. When I was doing the research it was between the Eheim and the Rena XP series.

If you go this way, DFWfishbox has a link for a discount code on the XP3 in their deals section. I know it worked last month I ordered one for my son for about $110, from Drsmithfoster or fostersmith whichever way it is. Good luck.

Ehiems, Rena's, fluvals, I own them all. All good filters, OP wants crystall clear water and currently is not having issues with ammonia/nitrite.

Ergo, the answer is simple, nothing, and I repeat nothing will touch the hot mags or mag 350 for water polishing (with the exception of a diatom filter).

Plus, for the price some are suggesting to spend on the eheims, fluvals, etc, you could get multiple hot mags (in the case of the fx5 you could get 4-5).

Too many of these what filter should I get threads always end up with posters looking for self satisfaction in the knowledge they made the right choice in their own personal filter........

I disagree with your statement. Obviously there are huge differences with all filters and that why people create these threads. If a thread asked what filter should I get, people are going to respond with their experience. Also, this brings more ideas to the table that other people are not aware of. There are reasons why forums exists!

Sorry on that, I was thinking it was Marineland for some reason. I do stick by my comments about it though. The bottom line on it is that is one great filter though. The other Fluval filters are just not that great.

You are correct. But the bottom line comes down to what does he really want. I have 5 HOT Mags going right now. I love them. If he really wants to make change period, then that means not just a water polishing cartridge IMHO. Looking at the tank it looks pretty clear as it is, but you cant expect to just setup a polishing canister in a HOT magnum and that be all your filtration.

Marineland..all the way.

Thanks for all the help, just ordered a magnum 350, my main use will be the water polishing. When my Cichlids get bigger I plan on adding a regular canister(Eheim, Marineland or Rena).
