Hi guys, so I have a Electric Blue Acara and a Green Terror. They occasionally show breeding behaviors. Especially the Green Terror. He would shake like crazy and sometimes bite on something and shake. Meanwhile, the Electric Blue Acara seems like it's mimicking the Green Terror. Is it possible that they can create a hybrid cichlid?20170619_080646_75205.jpg 20170619_080911_10576.jpg 20170619_081956_134.jpg 20170619_080911_75871.jpg 20170619_080911_88064.jpg

Well, I'm pretty sure your GT is male...& that's all I'll say...your Dempsey could be either sex.

The head shaking can also be a bit of a mild territory dispute. They may be closely related enough to hybridize but they're not the same genus making that much less likely.

Both are very attractive fish!

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, the Green Terror got too aggressive so I have to seperate the two. I think the Green Terror wanted to breed but the Electric Blue Acara was less interested. It's egg tube did pop out for a bit, but the Greeb Terror harassed the Electric Blue Acara too much. Yes, indeed they are very attractive. Thanks!

That's the way of most cichlids...Someone is almost always too much for harmony. At least you were able to move them...Good luck! Will you try to add a female to either tank?

I will probably try another female. I have to let this female recover as she was a little nipped up. Thanks!

Let us know how that works for you in either or both tanks. They're not called "terrors" for nothing. IME acaras are mellow for their size & I've "heard" electrics are even more so.

I have 5 Green Terrors in a 150 with 5 Clown Loaches, the largest Loach is probably 7", oh and musn't forget the Corries, probably half a dozen various corries.

The GT's measure from 2" to 3.5", not old/big enough just yet for breeding. Hopefully in the near future.

I doubt they will try to bully the Clown Loaches as they are much larger, we shall see.

I know it's an old thread, but I can verify that they can breed. I currently have fry from my female electric blue acara and male GT!

Well, at least I can tell M & F with your fish Cambam, lol, they look good. Make sure you are honest that the fry are hybrids when you rehome them. Some people are purists (me included) & some don't care so much.
