Electricity in tank

.46 volts is far too small of a number to be causing chlorine.

How are you adding top off water?

Needless to say though if the grouding probe was working it should read 0 volts. As the water is connect directly to ground. Are you using the same ground point for the volt meter. If not the reading is meaningless with out other measurements.

Ok that would make sense then. yeah .46 volts thoug is not enough to unbind the the sodium chloride not to mention the chloride would expell quickly so to get a reading after a few days is even stranger.

I am getting the reading with the ground probe in the sump. The ground probe is plugged directly into the wall outlet. The voltage reading does not change with the ground probe out of the water, so the probe is not doing anything. I use RO/DI water to top off. I get the clorine reading after 5 days if I don't add a declorinator to the tank. By that time all the fish are dead! I am at a loss here. I need help on what could be the problem. I have added nothing to the tank as far as suppliments in 2 weeks. If I stop adding the declorinator drip things start to die. Guys I need all the input I can get.

Thanks

I seem to recall you posted a thread much like this one a couple of weeks ago due to an iodine overdose in your tank? I was just wondering if you had that problem resolved because Iodine will act like chlorine if you have to much of it in your water still. Baring that I start asking about other materials in your tank decorations etc.. There is no reason that a cholrine reducer will work if there isn't a ,"to long since I had chem can't remember the grouping", a chemical to re-act to the declorinator. I strongly advise you to remove all of your live stock if possible and then take your water to a lfs or lab for a complete test. The only other think that I can think of would be the decorations or some other material in your tank. How long has your tank been set up.

if you are getting the reading with the ground probe then either you meter is not that accurate at less than 1 volt or the ground probe isnt working. If the ground probe is working properly there would be zero volts in the water as this is now a ground point.

Thanks guys, The ground probe is new, I guess it is not working cause I do have a reading until I unplug the sump pump. I did post on the iodine. That was the only thing I was adding at the time but, will a declorinator act on iodine like clorine?
