Emily's Pond Build Log

several kinds of irises are "boggy" and would be good choices for those pots.

various calla lilies apparently do grow well in GA (very pretty bog plants) but would probably outgrow the pots in a year or two

there are native hibiscus plants in a variety of colors that also do well in GA, but they are all really 4' - 8' shrubs and would be much too bg for the pots.

Yeah I'm probably going to check out the calla lilies. The hibiscus make me happy but definitely too big for what I'm doing. Not sure about the iris plants - do they winter well? I'll have to a little research there too.

Pond is completely drained (pics to come), and cleaned out (as much as possible - a little dirt still present, but nothing compared to what we cleaned out of it). Pond is now re-filling. That will take 6 or 7 hours to complete, so we are going to run to the store for some things. We fixed the area I think the mud was coming in at, so hopefully the next rain will prove to be non-mud-making.... If not, I'm probably going to cry. LOL. I really really don't want to drain/clean/refill a third time... So I've got my fingers crossed.

I'll bbl with more updates and some pics too.

Emptying the pond (and figured out the stupid fountani thing)

About 80% full, and bought a bunch of plants for around the pond.

And a few to go in pots. Got one calla lily and an iris too. Probably going to split the iris between two pots. i think there are a couple of rhizomes in there.

Working on planting this afternoon. We laid everything out this morning, realized we were a few plants short (had some extra space to fill), so went to the store and got a few more. I'm excited to see how it looks all planted! Of course, no aquatic plants in yet (none in stock at any nurseries yet), so I'll get to that later. Also an update on the QT fish - down to 1 goldfish left in QT (all others crapped out) and probably 30-40 minnows. Hard to count them as they're overly fast. So I'll definiteyl be getting more fish, but not until these are all done in QT and in the pond. Then I'll QT another batch. We'll see. :) Pics to come later this evening most likely.
