I have been taught that God(The Father) had to avert his gaze from his son for a brief time as humanities sin was purged through Jesus' sacrifice.

God, apparently, cannot look at sin.

Seems ridiculous that an allpowerful being can't do something.

How did people get to Heaven before Jesus came?

I was hoping that your knowledge of the Bible would lead us straight to Psalm 22, which is a Psalm of David, and begins "My God My God why have you forsaken me?". This is also one of the most striking descriptions of a "suffering servant"-- a prophecy, if you will, of Christ.

Why did he have to die-- ie, why couldn't God do something? You have to remember, that WAS God, the God of creation, hanging on the cross. Christians know and worship a God that is willing to come to this world and live and suffer right along side us, to be the example, and to take our place.

How did people get to heaven before Christ? The same way they always have--- faith (surely you've read Hebrews, he explains it much better than I can). Faith in the Christ on the cross is the exact same thing as, say, David's faith in Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel. Faith has *always*, in the Old and the New Testament, been something of *repenting* and turning from ungodly ways, and accepting God's ways. Gods way was revealed, just as He promised in the Old Testament that He would, in the suffering and atonement of Christ.

BTW, this is why I'm a staunch Creatonist---0 evolution. Folks, we have more evidence--ancient evidence-- of the existance, death, burial, and resurrection of Christ than we have that says Julius Caesar ever existed, yet nobody doubts the existance of Caesar. Evolution is such a relatively new fad compared to the millenia that people have been around. Funny that we think we modern geniuses know what happened billions of years ago yet modern humans can't build a pyramid like the big daddys in Egypt built thousands of years ago. Yeah, we're all that and a bag of potatochips.

Isn't it a coincidence that what we may call "modern intelligent humans" didn't appear on the "evolutionary" map until, oh, about as long ago as the Bible would suggest the earth AND humanity has been around, meaning, in the thousands and not millions of years.

I've been reading this thread without making any comment because of the delicate nature of the topic but......sorry Mako, that is absolutely not the case.

Urhm...fully modern humans have existed for 160,000 years.

The Bible(taken literally) implies that the Earth has only existed for 6,000 years.

That's a coincidence?

Ok, Let me rephrase my question, since you didn't understand...

Since Jesus died on the cross for Humanities sins, all we need to do, to wash our soul free of sin, so that we can go to Heaven, is to accept His sacrifice for us. The blood he shed on the cross washes all of humanities sins from their soul.

What did people do before that to wash the stain of sin from their soul so they could go to Heaven?

Why did he have to die-- ie, why couldn't God do something?

Please answer my question before I answer yours. My answer would include elements of your answer in this question I have for you.

Where are you getting that info from?

I don't want to get into the religious stuff at all- but Mako that is not the case, why on earth couldn't we build the pyramids the way they did (other than the fact that we lack a massive slave work force)? We have very precise records of how they were built, and where the materials came from.
Oh, and I agree, our records of Caesar are much more setailed than our records of Christ- when we are speaking of ancient records of course. Again, not trying to get into the religious side.

..and more importantly, why would we even feel the need to build one(pyramid)?

seriously, ash...do your homework.;)

Patristic societies didn't take the birth of a daughter the same way as the birth of a son, and it wasn't recorded the way Cain and Abel was.

Patristic Societies??

Do you mean Adam and Eve?

Or the Jews?

Adam and Eve are not a society. And if you mean the Bible is written from the perspective of the Ancient Jewish society...I thought the Bible was the word of god. Written by God through humans.

If any human wrote it from their view of things than the Bible became contaminated from the offset, wouldn't you think?

So we started from incest?

I think that explaining that Adam and Even had daughters, much less that their children had sex with each other is a very, very important point to include, if the Bible intends to tell us how it all started.

So, in 6000 years, the same family, all inbreeding, only starting with two people and their physical characteristics, created all the physical differences(ethnic groups) that exist today??

Or have I lost my common sense?

So you believe that Divergent Evolution happened that rapidly do you? I thought you didn't believe in Evolution.

There are countless references to Julius Caesar from many different sources who lived at the same time or not much later than Caesar himself. Check out Suetonius, Lucan texts, Plutarch texts. We even have Caesars own writing on the Gallic wars. I do like my ancient history :)
