Exact ID On the ram.

Hey everyone. I picked up a ram to put in my community I'm setting up. He's only 1.5" right now, and hes in a 10g until the 20g is set-up.

I'm wondering, what kind of ram is this, and is it possible to sex by the photos?

Alright thanks, colors seem to washed out a little bit right?

And another thing, he's not eating. Frozen Brine Shrimp falls to the substrate, he pecks at it, chews (or smushes?) and then spits it all out. He seems fine exploring, curiously pecking at things. Maybe it's just him adjusting to his new surroundings? When I can I'll pick up another one so he'll have some company.
 
He's a little stressed and still adjusting. He'll be fine by himself even without a partner so it's not necessary to pick another.:)

When I move him to the 20 I'm gonna want to breed him, so I'll try to find a female.

Will this also breed with the German Blue Ram? Same species?
 
They're all same species whether they are Holland blue ram, German blue ram, gold ram, balloon ram, etc. Bolivian rams (Microgeophagus altispinosa) are entirely different and quite distinctive. Avoid balloon rams as they have a higher incidence of swim bladder disorders than the original ones.

Rams are generally mellow, easy-going fish despite their Cichlid ancestry. Get another one and they'll be friends for life, but like Lupin said, there's no rush, your Ram will be fine for awhile.

My two Bolivian Rams are picky eaters, but that's because I spoil my fish with live bloodworms so much that they hardly touch anything else.

Looks like a nice Ram, congrats! His colors will develop as he settles in and gets larger.
 
Looks like my ram. Do you all say its a male because of the spike on his top fin?
