exodon tetras

wow, I just read on a site that they grow to around 7"! I had no idea they got so large, I just assumed they were small because they are tetra.

Ok, well time for a new idea...any ideas? I'd love to keep some kind of predatory fish but most would be too large for a 29Gal.

I'm looking for something a little bit more aggressive, perhaps a cichlid of some sort? I kind of want something that would aggressively go after feeder fish.

I feed my arrowhead puffer frozen silversides among other things, obviously thawed first. I don't use live feeders because I like simplicity and my fish doesn't care. If you want a high action fish, this puffer ain't for you. It spends 95% of it's time buried in the substrate or hidden in the plants.

well I was thinking that feeders would be more or less a treat rather than the main part of the diet.

African Butterfly Fish

African Butterfly fish stay pretty small and they do goa fter a wide variety of food items, they are insect ovorous...they eat bugs... and i've had a few that won't eat anything but bugs and the occasional feeder. I'm talking Freshwater here

"predator" is a fairly loose term so it really varies depending on what context you're talking about. Prettymuch anyfish besides vegetarians are "predators". I believe you are looking for something that is a vicious predator to attack smaller fish???

I know I'm going to get some disagreement here but a properly filtered 29 can house a pair of jewel or convict cichlids which are known for being tough aggressive fish. If you're wanting a school of "predators", I'm not sure what requirements lamprologus calvus/compressiceps would need as far as tank size but they are big predators. many catfish are as well. cya, KYle

I've decided on firemouths...I read that a 29Gal is big enough for a pair. I'm going to be overfiltering and doing water changes 2x a week so would a pair be too much?

I would also like to add a featherfin squeaker but I'm sure thats too much for that tank.

similar requirements as a convict or jewel so in my opinion you can make it work although you will be told it won't. I have a pair of Jewels in a 29 and have been told time and time again it's too small. They've spawned so much I had to add some "lace" catfish from wally world to act as fry patrol to keep them from outbreeding my home. I've never heard of a featherfin squeaker but if you plan on breeding them, most anything will take a beating and has to be tough as nails to withstand it. Kyle
