that's an opinion that will vary as much as shoe designs. I personally would look for some type of killiefish or wildtype livebearers. there are also dwarf puffers, dwarf gourami's, tetras, barbs, etc. etc. that would work well in a 10 gallon. it really depends on what you are looking for. Kyle
form what i have resherched and experienced theres not a lot of fish that work good for a 10gal and by that i mean theres fish that will survive fine in there but they wont be very active at all. and i do agree with snakeskinner killie fishes would be good like a clown killie there small and nicly colored or the least killie fish would be good there very tiny and you can have about ten per gal but there not exotic the actully native to the USA. reg neons would be good rosy barbs should be good or you could do a betta tank you can have one male in there or split up the tank with dividers and put a few in. also paradise fish would work. but other than that theres not alot that would be very active. But then thats just my opinion
on the barb side I'd only go with cherry barbs... they don't get mich bigger than Neons which is the 1st fish I'd recommend for a 10gallon. My 3-Rosey barbs swim around like mad in my 29gal which I think is a minimum tank size for these active maniacs.
I'd go with something like:
5 - Neons
3 - Harlequin Rasboras or cherry Barbs
2 - dwarf corys (some examples: jullis, pandas, peppered)
Tie some Java Fern and Java Moss on a couple of rocks and/or decorations
and you prolly have room for 4-5 ghost shrimp.
YES! definitely check out dwarf cichlids. they can be hard to find, but they're cool fish.
i thought all cichlids were aggressive and the only cichlid i could ever find were african cichlids. but my local fish stores have just started to carry all sorts of cichlids. and if you ask, sometimes they will special order for you, it might cost some more, but it can be well worth the extra money and effort to get a healthy pair of "unique" fish.
i know someone who has a pair of breeding rams in a 7 gal tank. the tank is very heavily planted though and he's always checking the water parameters to make sure they are just right.
