Experience with Hang On Tank Magnum Canister Filter

when ever your flow out of the filter slows down. I use NANO sized bio balls in all my canisters I find them much easier to work with. I use mainly coralife black nano balls to be exact. I dont use carbon dont feel a need for it so to me its a waste of $$$$.

You'll be good to start with what it has.

No you can't choose what comes with it.

Was just saying you could buy extra bio-balls. You won't typically want to use carbon with plants.
if you don't put it in. It'll be there someday, to use after meds or something.

Keep a happy tank and you can worry about fish problems alot less. ;)
Low stress and good water = happy tank.

if you just get the media it comes with hook it up and you will have plenty of time to google different medias you can use or just keep it the way it is, your making this harder on your self then you need to. polishing pads will clog faster i just use foam pads and nano bio balls foam pads are simple to rinse and reuse. so its really this simple buy the filter hook it up and call it a day and enjoy your tank. hot magnum or canister either one will work fine on your tank, if your buying on ebay make sure you know if its new or used 1st, send a email asking if all the parts are included
(alot of times yeah its new but a part is missing they dont say it is in ad but you ask and find out) and if its used ask if it works, does it leak, all parts included etc. and if they dont reply to your questions DO NOT BID ON IT. ebay can be a perfect place for excellent deals BUT YOU have to ask the questions, know prices of the item generally charged on the internet so you know if its a good deal and dont forget to add shipping to the price that can often turn a good deal into not such a deal after all. and always pay with paypal so you have protection and can get your money back if the deal goes wrong and you pay and get no package in the mail. AND most important to me is check there feedback score are they flakes? do they have negative reports? if they do PASS that deal on by because you know its going to be trouble if you dont. thats why most people get burned they dont do the homework or ask questions and just buy it cause it was cheap.

Rod is right. Don't waste your time trying new media until you have got a feel for what comes with it. I happen to like Carbon and recharge mine over and over again, however IMO the media canister on the HT is too small and tight and filling it with carbon seem to clog too quickly for my liking, so I too don't recommend its use with the HT, but Bio Balls sound fine and wont clog.

Rod is right also in pointing out about being careful on Ebay purchases. I don't recommend buying anything USED that is over 50% retail NEW which includes shipping. Reputation and negative reviews are all that important to look at along with the detailed questions and PayPal protection. But these deals are far and few between and you have to be an Eaby predator to get these deals.

Haha thanks....I asked the seller if everything was included and he said yes. It's like a fish company in phili. 99.9% good rating. The total came to $75 with shipping. I still think I just found a good deal! Two days ago he had like 4 of em' and when I bought mine today, I got the last one
Thanks I'll try out the media it come with first....
