Favorite Fish For 10g

I would strongly suggest, merely as an opinion, to at least include some corydoras in your tank. There are a wide range of species; including, corydoras trilineatus, corydoras aeneus which are common and cute, to somewhat odder color patterns in corydoras rabauti and corydoras barbatus. Most commonly reach 2 1/2-3 inches in aquarium settings and mine have always been very active, and particularly good scavengers. They can handle a variety of water conditions well, and they have armored bodies and locking spines to prevent injury from some more aggressive tankmates.

Inquire about them on your LFS avail's list or online at sites such as: www.petsolutions.com, www.thatpetplace.com, www.liveaquaria.com, www.****************, and others. Accompanied with some nice plants from sites like www.aquariumplants.com and you should have a nice little setup and maybe some breeding pairs along the way. Good luck and keep us up to date :)

cories need to be kept in schools of 6 or more. that's seriously verging on overstocking a 10 gallon. you couldn't add anything else but the cories.

To say that cory cats NEED to be kept in schools of 6 or more is untrue. I have kept one single 2.5 inch aeneus with a baby red-tail catfish and not only did he do well on his own, he even managed to literally sleep on the side or under the belly of the red-tail in a driftwood log each night. I have two paired aeneus' and they spend all day wandering together in my 55g and my single agassizi cory cat spends more time on his own then with the aeneus or three-lined cory cats. Maybe six in a school for breeding purposes, but I've never had any cory cats suffer from the anxiety of being solitary. Also, stocking measures are a general guideline for those using minimal upkeep techniques. Most people would consider my 55g overstocked, but I did 10% water changes twice a week and never had nitrates above 5 ppm. Not only that but I haven't done one in a few weeks (and this goes for other people with the same setup) and all I do is a 25% water change with my Coralife Pure Flo II RO/DI and aerate the water with an Eheim aquaball 1212 and use a Penguin 350 Biowheel setup. Some weeks my nitrates have measured close to zero. Just make sure if you are stocking heavily, to have a good source of oxygen (i.e. - a powerhead like the eheim with surface air intake hose and a good biological wet/dry filter) and monitor your nitrates each week and make adjustments with Stress Zyme as necessary.

I recommend a betta and about a dozen pygmy cories. I absolutely love mine. They swim near the bottom and mid level of the tank whereas bettas tend to hang around near the surface.
