feeding crickets

I feed crickets to my cichlids from store. They only bugs you don't want to throw in your tank are spiders. In salt I don't feed live goldies due to it affects liver in salt fish so I've heard and believe but is highly recamended to feed bugs and worms as live food but most spider bites can be poisionous, again so I'm told and believe.

my oscar pictured to the left for you is a big fan of crickets. it is a very rare treat when he sees one in his tank but i'm going fishing tomorrow and i may bring him some back. he puts a serious chomp into them.

i avoid feeding most flying insects with the exception of mosquitoes because i hate them and they're apparently very tasty for fishies.

flies are nasty creatures and i dont want them near my fish. dragonflies and the like have a substance in them that's not good for fish. fireflies are poisonous and most other common flying insects sting or have some amount of poison... i just dont like taking that risk.. but worms and crickets.. they're great.

maybe I'm just paranoid about this, but other than crickets intended for herp food, I wouldn't feed any bugs to my fish. There's always the chance of their being exposed to pesticides and other toxic stuff.

You're right. You are indeed paranoid. LOL. I agree that you shouldn't feed insects/worms from unknown areas where you don't know what pesticides are used. If you know the area, there's no reason that live food should not be a part of their daily diet. It's what they eat in the wild, so why would it be harmful?

My girls love catching crickets, grasshoppers and worms for our cichlids
