I've got an Eheim 2215 on my 50 gallon tank and it's great. I'd reccomend that for your 55. On the 120 either a pair of 2217s or one of the bigger Eheim canisters.

I've been researching what to put on a 12 gallon octagon that won't take a HOB because of the small space. I've pretty much decided to go with an Eheim Aquaball 2008. Have a look at these on the Eheim website. It's a very reliable brand.
