Filters - thinking of going to a cannister...

I've had HOB AquaClears in the past, and the only time I could hear them was if the impeller was not rotating smoothly, or the water level of the aquarium was too low which caused turbulance and bubbling noises from the outflow the HOB.

I do prefer canisters though...... :)
 
I just recently bought a Fluval 204 and like it so far.

I can not hear it unless my ear is against the canister, every so often there is a 'flushing' sound but I think its the filter cleaning out the impeller.

The current can also be controlled via their 'AquaStop' system. Just pull the lever up or down to increase/decrease water flow.

The fish don't seem to mind it... yet :)
