Ok, now I know you expected to see some concoction of a car muffler, some sand paper, 6 feet of dryer hose, some zip ties, 28 feet of rope, and a pepsi bottle all combined to filter a 1.5g fish bowl. I probably have disappointed you with my thread title, but I wanted to be creative.

I've got a penguin 330 and 55g that I'm getting ready to set up. I'll end up with the penguin 330 and a penguin 300 I'm getting from a friend, but what I want to know, is if the 330 will be sufficient for the few fish I have. 1 dwarf gourami, 2 guppies, 2 cherry barbs, 1 small pleco (3" right now), and 2 otto. I don't plan to add any extra fish to it for a while, at least until I get the 300 going also.
 
I would imagine your filtering around 280-300 gps which is about 5 or 6x the water turns over in yoru tank an hour. I would think with the light bioload that that filter should suffice (Unless one of your fish is extremely messy for some reason). I would definitly add another filter when you get more fish though. The way I read this the 55 gallon tank is not setup yet. Is there any way you can get the 300 soon? If the filter that you are getting from your friend is currently being used I would get that "cycled" filter and put it on your tank or just the bio-wheel (if compatible) and slap it in your 330, if the 330 is new "uncycled". I'm not familiar with penguin filters. This would provide you with a benifical bacterial colony instantly as long as the filter media/bio wheel is kept wet during transfer. This would allow you to stock some if not all your fish in your tank with less chance of a spike.
 
Good idea. Use established media if possible.

I'm just wondering why there's no duct tape involved in your fantastical fish bowl filter. You can never use enough duct tape :P.
