plus i think you could start with one and as they get older just add another. just watch your params

Filtration question?

Rbishop, I took a closer look and I think I was misinformed on the sponge filters....they are operated by a tetra whisper air pump for 30-60 gallons. I'm starting to get pissed at the guy who sold me this tank....and myself for not taking a closer look.
allaboutfish and real, I'll check out the aquaclears....why do you recommend these over the other ones? (Just curious). I was hoping to be able to use the rite-size cartridges...

theyre like a canister but a hob. they have a lot of space for media and theyre just the best hob filters

The Emperor 400 is a very good filter. I have one (right next to an AC 110). However, if I had to choose between the two, I'd take the AC over the Emperor. The AC has more internal space allowing numerous customizable media options. Plus the AC foam sponges last years. Just squeeze them clean and reuse them over and over. Once you have one and become more familiar with the different types and brands of filtering media that can be used in it, you'll see what I'm talking about. These filters are work horses and will last a long time if maintained properly.

According to aqadvisor.com, 2 AC110's plus my two sponges puts me at 170% filtration capacity.

Two AC70's (which are $30 less a piece) put me at 121%.

Is that enough? If I can save $60 and pretty much spend on 2 filters, what I would spend on 1, I'd rather do that. Also, keep in mind that those numbers are IF I overstock by the one extra fish, which I'm still not sure I will do. Opinions please?

The smaller 2 sound fine. Aqua advisor rates filters at 65% (basically if a filter says it can handle 100 gallons they rate it at 65 gallons) of their rated values so that should be great.
I really like wet/dry setups though. For a 75g you could build the whole thing for about $100 and then add the cost of bio media and you're good. If you decide to look into that I ave a few references for ya.
