Finally...Altums

Just picked up 3 myself a few days ago. One already died so im down to 2, but they look great. I have them in a 29g qt with 6 skunk corys and a gbr female. I'm going back today to return the one and get a few more. I hope yours are juvies. I made the mistake of getting an adult and it didn't go well. Good luck! Post pics.

I'm sorry, but the picture here doesn't look like altums to me. Beautiful fish though.

Twp tanks.. I have no problem with your posting of good information.
particularly concerning Altums.

they have arrived and safe and sound.. HAW sent 7 all nickel to dime size...on an order of 6. the first 24 hrs was nerve racking.. but the Altums are in a tank at 84-86 f .. RO/DI.. the pH from HAW 6.4..my tank pH was -6.6 my first instinct was to acclimate the Altums to a slightly higher pH..after 30 min and a NH3/NH4 test I saw a slight rise in ammonia..color in the tube after 5 min was just turning.. so I opted for plop and drop..the altums quickly hid behind the sponge filter..one looked a bit weak..after 12 hrs I decide to attempt a feeding(very light) crushed flake, since they had not eaten in at least 2 days..they savagely attacked the flake..
advance to sunday evening.. I have been doing daily water changes feeding the altums several times per day(small feedings)..
the Altums are in a 20 which they use the full footprint. their fins are quite tall.

I do have pics of the first day and will try to upload...they are very shy as the tank has little structure in it save for the indian almond leaves(thanks Rach). the UV filter..which they like to hang around from time to time.. and the sponge filter...I plant to try to add some structure in the tank to make them feel more comfortable..
gen cure, furan 2 are on the way..and should be here this week plan is also to continue lowering the pH..then slowly acclimate to tap over the course of several months

Very cool! Glad they made it to you safe and sound!

Great looking! Good luck!

Thanks
I am trying to be optimistic..
I was amazed at how tall their dorsal and anal fins are..

it took them a bit to start to show their markings..and when they are startled they tend to lose color..but after settling in they get it back.

I am excited and cautious about the next few weeks..
