Fire belly newts..?

Good luck picking some up Pup ! Of course you do have to post some pics of the critters and their tank... :D
I will have to.. :) My search for these guys have been a long one. So I am not giving up so easily. But I think I will start my tank up soon and get that going and start adding some plants to that tank.

So EMG, you ever gonna post some updates on your little tank here? Even the Frog one would be nice to see some more close ups on your guys.

update

I upgraded my 10G to a 20G long today and so far all is well. I have about 8 gallons of water in it so I just switched over my fluval 1+ which is rated for up to 12G. One newt is out and about and the toad is sitting more or less where she always does. The other newt is hiding but that is normal. Thinking about adding my 3 white clouds to the mix but not sure. I bought some new rock--they are a little larger and I built up one side to create a small rocky area for the crickets to creep around until they meet their demise. I have mostly water since my newts are almost fully aquatic. I always say I'll try to post a pic and never do but I will try, our digital camera drives me crazy.

BTW, Tricksterpup, we bought a house in southwestern MN and will be moving in June. So far no Eastern newts available around here, just paddletail and fire bellies. I am keeping my eyes out for you.

Here's a few pics for you Pup....click on them if you want to see the pic full size....

This one was taken with the flash on....

I haven't done anything new with thier setup.......I'll have to get a few new pics of my river tank. The plants have been shooting roots down into the water. I've also added a few endlers in there with the betta and ADFs. I have to do a "makeover" on the land section. The plants are getting out of hand and I think I can do something a bit nicer in there if I try. I'll post a pic after I get that done.

Also........I picked up a much larger herp tank from a friend for 10$. I think it's a 40gallon breeder size...or at least 30. It's 36Lx18wx16H....boy, I sure do have plans for THAT !! :D

Thanks Jackie for the update. :) I do appreciate you keeping your eyes out for me. My goal now is to turn my 29 gallon tank into a Newt tank, with tons of bog plants. I will have to keep everyone posted on this.

You will love the 29G tank for the newts, the 20G long has the same footprint, only shorter of course. There is a ton of room and IF I did not have the toad I would add at least 2-3 more newts. With the mix, I feel I'm lucky and will leave things as is.

Question for EMG: Do your newts ever get a baby endler? They are prolific enough, so it wouldn't bother me, but just wondering as I have an abundance of endler's. In a different thread I said I was thinking of adding some white clouds, endler's might be a better choice as they are a bit smaller. Also, do you heat the tank? Mine is unheated, I would guess the endler's are hearty enough to live in an unheated tank but just wondering out loud.

Wow Joe, that's really cool ! Nice job !

Minnesotagal, I don't heat the tank with the newts..newts don't need a heater and endlers will do ok without one too. I did have some baby endlers, but something ate them...lol...I dont' know if it was the ADFs or the betta. I don't suspect the newts because they never go in the water, but I suppose it's possible they could be snacking on them. I did notice one of them hanging out near the water just this morning....maybe looking for a quick bite ??

Thanks EMG, I don't heat my newt tank but I do heat my endler tank at least during the winter because the room I keep the endler's in is COLD--in fact with the heater on yesterday it got down to 72. I've had some heater issues with this tank with the temp fluctuations in New England--turned the heater up and it was 70 outside and the fish were in a jacuzzi at 84, turn the heater off and the weather changes and it's now 72.

That's not a bad idea to throw some endler's in with the newts and provide a tasty snack for the newts--a change from bloodworms and newt pettlets.

EMG, did you see my post to you in the small tank section?? I found the link to the planted tank forum and posted it there.

Thanks EMG, I must've missed this during the down time. Those frogs look fantastic. I know a shop over here that gets them but she is pricey and they are pricey frogs for their size. But they are very very pretty.
And 10 bucks for a tank that size.. now that is a deal. congradulations on that, gotta post picts when you get that up and running.

Mine loved water. I had a half water half gravel aqurium with some fire belly frogs.
