Okay I've switched from Internet Explorer to Firefox, all after completely wiping my pc clean and reinstalling Windows ME. My issue is as follows, Whenever I connect to my internet service, firefox doesn't launch on it's own but does fine when I manually launch it. Internet Explorer still wants to pop up beside it when I connect, so I have to exit out of it. Any way to solve this issue?~Angela

Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? All ISPs I know of that ship setup CDs all hook into IE and make it "their" browser. You can try making Firefox your default browser but I'm not sure that will help.

Peace...

It must be a NetZero thing. They must use IE as part of their startup. I don't think there's anything you can do about it other than drop NetZero and find another ISP or read the "Wi-Fi" thread to learn how to use someone else's Internet connection. :D

Peace...

Had the same issue when I was on NetZero...you must use IE initially with NetZero....sux.

Thanx guys:) My Mom has been trying to get me to switch to Verizon DSL instead. I've been nervous about it though because it's always connected and obviously that means hackers or viruses can come through easier. However, they say they provide security with firewalls and such. Anybody use this service? Will my pc and all its contents be safe enough? ~Angela

I have an always on connection at home too...not Verizon but SBC rather. If you use a personal free firewall or even Windows XP built in firewall, you should be pretty fine. Not saying they are the best or that you won't get hacked, but I use Sygate Firewall and sometimes have both Sygate and XP's firewall running at the same time. Never had a problem and Sygate is free.

if you keep your PC patched and up to date with all updates, everything should be fine.

and always on, is really 'on whenever your PC is on' you won't get hacked while your PC is powered down.

these days, IMHO, you're more likely to be caught by a browser hijack or simi9lar than you are to be hacked..

You can go ahead and install ZoneAlarm now (it will work with your dial-up service) and when you switch to DSL, it will protect you adequately. I wouldn't use the firewall, spyware, or other "protective" software your DSL provider provides.

If you can, upgrade from Windows ME to Windows XP to get current. :)

Peace...

Riso-chan, I also recommend trying to upgrade to Windows XP and get Norton Internet Security 2006 and keep it updated with "Live Update"... Use Norton's Firewall and turn off Windows XP firewall, its not as good..
