I'm so excited! Today, I noticed 5 little babies in my hatchery! I currently have 6 clutches in there but I'm not sure if they are all fertile. I've had a female, a golden apple named Amigo (thought she was a boy) for about 6 months now and she had been laying clutches but none were fertile. I got another female, a blue named Vida, about 2 months ago and so far I think she's only laid 1 clutch which wasn't fertile. I introduced Nico, a dark striped purple, who I thought was a female but low and behond I caught him with both of my females on several occasions. Since I've added Nico I've gotten about 6 clutches but I don't know how many were laid before he made his move at my girls. I know at least 3 are fertile so I can still expect quite a few lil babies I suppose :). The hatchery is a 10 gallon with nothing in it except a bit of hornwort. I have a few questions though. I want them to grow up healthy so is there anything special I need to do? I'm feeding them snail jello with extra calcium but I don't know if that is good enough. Any help would be greatly appriciated!!

Congrats on the babies. Snail jello enriched with calcium is a great start. A variety of foods is always best. Kensfish.com sells calcium enriched sticks especially for snails. Fresh veggies are also appreciated by the snails to include zuchinni, cucumber, green beans, shelled peas, spinach, romaine or leaf lettuce (not iceburg). I usually save out some of what ever we are eating for supper and put it in their tank. They also eat algae wafers, catfish pellets, etc. Making sure their diet is high in calcium will give them their best bet as it will stregthen their shells.

I've got to finish a bit of reading for a class and then go and get some batteries since mine are dead but I'll post some pictures this evening!

Here are some shots of the babies, the hatchery, and also the proud parents. The golden is the mother and the DPS is the father.

Wooooweeeeeee thats a lot of clutches you gonna be a busy mommy with 100's+ of baby snails :D.

I been trying to breed mine, what temperature is your heater, I think people said higher temps promote growth but lessens life span?

thats a smart idea, is that like a tupaware cover or the cover for the containers that bettas come in?? u just float that and the snails crawl on that and lay

Can you explain the hatchery? What is the lid sitting on or is it floating? How will the hatchlings get down into the water? Are those clutches that fell into the bottom of the aquarium?

I am guessing she will move them when they hatch. I seen another examples of people floating the eggs so the humidity will keep the eggs moist and not dry out.
