:goldfish: I just received a 55 gallon tank, along with a 7 1/2 inch pleco. The tank has medium lighting..I wanted to plant the tank, but wasn't quite sure wither the Pleco would destroy it. Anyone have any plant sugesstions? Fish sugesstions?
:1zhelp:
thanks!

my suggestion is..try and determine which species of 'pleco'-armored catfish you have.

then decide what to stock.

some species of pleco''s can get quite large

You might provide a pic of the fish. Someone will be able to tell the exact species and how big it may grow.
Too many stocking options to list for a 55gallon tank. You could preuse some local fish stores and come up with a list of fish you like. wwwfishprofiles.com has a pretty good description of various fish and their requrements.
Welcome to Aquarial Central by the way.

A pic would be great for identifying it. Also...

www.planetcatfish.com

has many in their listings to help identify them and a good reference source.

IMO, get rid of the common plec ASAP. they are lazy, big and tend not to do much other then destroy things.

as for stocking, IMO I would do a tank with 6 angelfish, 10 cories, 15-20 pencilfish, 10 marbled hatchets, and a pair of bristlenose catchfish. for plants do some narrow leaved plants, java fern, anubias, java moss always looks pretty good, and use either some florite or some gravel ontop of peat moss.

I'd go peaceful community tank (without the pleco)

A school of rainbowfish OR non nippy tetras
Peacock gudgeons or Platies
School of Dwarf Chain Loaches OR Cories
3 Siamese Algae Eaters or 5 Ottos
A pair of pearl gouramis OR a betta
If you go with the betta, also go with smaller rainbowfish.

For plants - medium light - no CO2

Water Sprite
Aponogetons
Anubias on DW
Java ferns on DW
Crypts
Bolbitus on DW
Tiger lotus
Wisteria
