Fish for 2.5 Gallon?

If it were mine????

I would plant it up nicely and put in a pair of betta simplex, they are hard to get right now as they are wild caught, but that is what I would do.

but then I am insane about Bettas... :cool2:

I've done a litttle more looking around and I have two more questions...
1) Would a pair of cherry barbs work?
2) How about a bumblebee goby? Those are pretty cool lookin'...
Thanks!

Cherry barbs although they are not considered schooling fish need to have more of thier own kind to be happy. I believe that the bumblebee goby also needs more room then 2.5 gallons to play in. If it were me I would plant it up nicely complete with floating plants and put a beautiful betta in it. He will love you for the floating plants too. I have two small aquariums set up this way for my bettas and they love it.

Are there any other recommendations about any fish I haven't considered and/or wouldn't think about before I make my decision? I've gotten great advice so far, but I was just wondering if there were any more options...
Thanks so much in advance!

Neons maybe?

Tropical, you are VERY mistaken. Dwarf Gouramis grow to 2.5", but I agree you shouldnt have one in a 2.5 gal. Maybe 2-3 Neons? If you have a good filter, a couple neons and ghosties can catch your eye. Betta, of course, especially if you have a few females in there (I wouldnt suggest going over 2, 3 tops) or the regular old 1 male. If dwarf puffers wernt so territorial, id suggest em, but Neons should be go. :)

Giant gourami? Ah, maybe not... Neons, sure, but I don't think they make neons like they used to. I have some rainbowfish in a 10 litre tank like that here, but they are currently about 4mm long :) It had a couple of guppies in a while back, but really not a great size tank to work with...

I wouldn't put neons in a tank that size either. They are a schooling fish and need a school of at least six for them to be happy. That of course would be too much for a 2.5 gallon tank.

Hi,

Zebra Danios, Dwarf Gouramis, Neon Tetras, Crayfish, Ottos, Cherry Barbs, White Cloud Mountain Minnows, and many other ones suggested get way to big for a 2.5 gallon tank.

You should just get a betta with a couple of shrimp. Or a betta with a ADF.

In reference to the female bettas, why would you put 2 to 3 territorial fish that get to be 2 to 3 inches in a 2.5 gallon tank. Have you seen one of these these things in real life they are tiny, especially for so many large fish. The water would also foul up the water easy. Even though they are females, the tank being so small would possibly cause aggression issues from the fish being so cramped.
Neons being so weak and fragile nowadays will probably not last very long in that tiny tank where things, such as water quality and temperature can change quickly. This causes an unstable environment for a fish that is already weak.
As for the dwarf gourami, just because a fish can fit in a small tank doesn't mean it will be happy or live it's life to the fullest in there. How would you like to spend your life in a box with nothing to stimulate your mind and hardly any room to move?
