Fish Ideas

I have a fifty five gallon tall aquarium, that is a 20"x30"x18', and I am looking for suggestions for a new fish to add to my aquarium. I am looking for a hardy fish that isn't terribly expensive. In my tank I have a aggressive fish, but my blue tang is constantly sick so I am going to take her back to the fish store, and replace her with a different fish, please suggest some ideas that match my tank.

Powder Brown Tang 4"
Volitan Lionfish 5"
Blue Tang 5" Going to Replace

If a fish is consistently sick, there is an issue, I would believe. You may want to go ahead and take that fish back, take the time to search for and address that issue before diving in and adding something else that could end up the same way.

As i said before, I think your tank is way too small for that stock. The powder brown tang is going to outgrow it, as is the volitan. I am speaking of just those being in the tank by itself. The clown may become a meal once the lion gets a big larger.

I wouldn't add anything else to the tank. I am betting the blue tang is extremely stressed, which is a reason behind sickness.

I might just end up returning the blue tang, and not add anything else because mandy21 thinks my tank may be overstocked.

Right now the fish may be smaller, but they won't stay small. my concern is mostly with the tang and the volitan. It, of course is you call, but keep in mind your stock isn't fully grown. That's what I'm trying to point out, is all.

I agree with Mandy, and by overstocking it isn't so much the number of fish but the adult size and swimming room the fish you have need. Most of what you have needs a larger tank.

I am only 16, and this is my dads tank that he gave me, I have a part time job, to pay for it but it takes alot of money to upgrade the tank, how would I do it if i was to consider it.

20x30x18? That only equates to 47g and that doesn't account for loss once rock is added. Regardless don't think of it is a 55g or a 47g tank. Forget the height as most fish aren't going to swim up and down (except for freaky clowns) they'll laterally. In my opinion you need to stick to fish that grow to no more than 4".

I think in your case I'd take back all the fish that will grow to more than 4" and stick with smaller species.

I haven't Measured the tank, I am just eyeing it, i would need to get a measuring tape to actually get the dimensions.
