Fish Nazi at LFS

But then, I wouldnt have my tetras and he'd still be thinking that tetras cant go in a tank with rainbows.
You could have gotten another employees help OR you could have come back to buy them when the owner was there. You say he'd still be thinking that tetras cant go in a tank with rainbows, well, he might still think that. I know that if someone treated me the way you did him, I would probably be likely to disregard any advice or information I was given. IMO. Being nice always seems to work better.

Thanks for the feedback. Keep it coming. Good thread eh?

The kid had no tact. If he has some aquaria knowledge in his head, he should learn how to share it without offending people or find a job away from the public.

Ah, see now thats how I felt. Thats why I blasted him. I guessed it would be about 50/50 in my feedback on this, but I am glad to see I am not the only one who would have felt that. Its also harder to convey "tone of voice" in text, but as I said, he was rather rude about it. Flat you might say.

The kid could have said "I would suggest that tetras and rainbows shouldn't be in the same tank." And to say to you to get some different fish rudely would boil me over. Maybe you wanted to use tetras as a feeder fish. Who knows? Like getting ghost shrimp to feed to bichirs or another fish. It is your money and your choice to do with the fish what you want. And if they live together in your tank without a problem then I don't see why the kid made such a fuss. If I were him and you told me you had them together in one tank I would be like "huh, well that is interesting. Never heard of anything like that happening before." There were many ways the kid could be polite about it.

Ok wow, People on here are being a little TOO literal on calling some one a nazi!! If anyone has ever HEARD of a show called Seinfield I believe he was making a loose refernce to the Soup Nazi, so far I have only seen one person actually get that point!!!

Aside from that I think you did the right call for telling the bugger off! I work at a LFS myself and although I may suggest not putting a particular fish in with others I would never say you CAN"T do something like putting two types of fish together, especially if someone is already keeping two species together already. I personally do not recomend keeping gold fish in with tropical but doesn't mean it can't be done. I totally wouldn't void a warrenty because of it though, just warn them and send them on their merry way.

Deep breath Aquarob most people just dont seem to get it.

There is absolutely no reason small tetras and rainbowfish cannot be kept together. On top of that, celebese rainbows are among the most peaceful out there, perhaps only bested by threadfins and other less common species like gertrudae. I've kept rainbows and small tetras together for many years, as well as with delicate hatchet fish, etc. No one is worse for the wear and they get along exceedingly well.

I do agree that it's nice when a LFS person refuses to sell fish to a situation they know will be harmful, but unless they know what they're talking about, it does no one any good.

he was...what??? 19
how many kids, especially teens, didn't have the 'know it all attitude'.

while I am not condoning his 'attitude' ..as a matter of fact I think his attitude is deplorable..afterall..the motto in sales still remains in tact..the customer is always right...

I think the clerk will need to hone his skills at PR work which is what their job actually is.

I had a similar situation recently..rather than deal with this attitude my question was.."Can I speak to your manager?"

this kid probably read a lot of books and many of those fish books that are written are not really written by experineced hobbyists. most of those writers just read other books. AQuarob next time just go to the store and if you see a new empoyee walk away and wait til the manager and or Brian is there to help you out since they know you. thats what i do. for me oscars i travel all the way out to island to go to a petco that has a great experience hobbyists. he has expereince for more than 20 years and if he not there i dont buy. some people have told me that tetras go with oscars GO FIGURE!!! lol i tell them yeah they go together if the tetras are being served as the meal. LOL

back to the reference point of the nazi or soup nazi. That term has been around and used loosely for at least a decade now (that Ive heard, probobly longer in big cities) Its usually used for an unpleasant person that has to have it his or her way. Fish Nazi. Fish Nazi. Has a certain ring to it doesnt it. I know ive said it a few times
