Fish Nazi at LFS

Ok wow, People on here are being a little TOO literal on calling some one a nazi!! If anyone has ever HEARD of a show called Seinfield I believe he was making a loose refernce to the Soup Nazi, so far I have only seen one person actually get that point!!!

Actually, quite a few people who have posted "got the joke" and are well aware of the soup nazi episode. It all boils down to who uses the term loosely as a joke and who is genuinely offended by the use of the term "nazi" for anyone not actually pertaining to the political party.

The kid had no tact. If he has some aquaria knowledge in his head, he should learn how to share it without offending people or find a job away from the public.
I agree 100%. I think he did a good job standing up but continuosly fighting with you is bad service.

Geez.

Final word: tetras are FINE with rainbowfish. Rainbowfish are not "semi-aggressive" in the true sense of the word. Like any other fish, they WILL attack and kill a fish that is sick or weak or one they perceive as being thus. Ie: a bubble eye goldfish might as well have a target on it's head for *any* larger fish and some small ones. Fish ain't stupid. They know those eyes aren't normal. Off, off with dem eyes!

I would not, however, put tetras with rainbowfish myself, unless I had a REALLY big tank. They are both schoolers and will get in the way of each other. The tetras will probably end up hiding or staying in the layer between the middle and the bottom.

Again, as a few people already said, rainbows are fine with tetras. Celebes Rainbowfish (which are Silversides, not true Rainbowfish. Sorry hadda get that in there) are one of the gentlest ones out there, just as Leopardess said.

Rob, I think you were spot on....I feel for the young fella though...lol...I hate hurting people's feelings or making them feel bad...even if they deserve it. I'm sure he'll get over it and maybe he learned something useful from the experience.

Reminded me of a male nurse who was caring for my mom while she was in ICU....he was a Dr wannabe.......instead of just coming in and doing his job, he would come in and offer his opinions about what was going on with my mom and what kind of chances she had.........WITHOUT us asking him for that opinion BTW. When the Drs came in he would "linger" and listen to everything they said and then after they left, he'd again...fill us in on his thoughts about it all. Very annoying ! All the rest of the nurses, male and female were FANTASTIC Wonderful caring compasionate people !

I think the kid was just being a smart alec-know-it-all......more than he was concerned for the fish......sorry, but that's what I think. Know-it-alls generally like to offer opinions without invitation, are VERY pushy about it.....and will NOT listen to you when you offer yours in defense. They ALWAYS know best BTW....

You took him down a few pegs......he'll get over it....lol...

I think you did the right thing by standing up for yourself, but I do think you were a little harsh.

He did apologize for how he came across, please notice. I think everyone learned something through the interaction.

i think it's just fine what you did!

it has become coloquially acceptable use the term nazi to impress a person's stubborn refusal to accept you opinion, knowledge, rights, etc.

get off his back. . .the kid was on a power trip and acting like a d!*k.

while it is more common to overhear LFS staff telling people they can keep 2 osacars and a plecco in that 10 gallon no prob.

i have had the expirience of the reverse before too. for example 3 months ago when i was setting my 20 long back up i went in to buy a small school of corys (planted and cycled)

the staffer asked me what kind of tank i had. He told me that these catfish were know to be agressive at night and that my neon tetras would be picked off one by one and that they would tear up all my plants.

i told him he was wrong and he sold me the fish with no more than a sideways look but . . . still a similar story

just because the sales person was completely wrong in a way that would not create a situation of animal cruelty does not mean that he wasn't completely wrong.

everyone has bad moods- i snaped at someone on a thread earlier b/c i was sick of doing the reseach for him when he's just as capable of doing a google search as i am- probably shouldn't have but he deserved it.

cheers
