Fish that do not need filters

In a reef tank, your live rock and live sand is the filtration system.

From Wiki on the purpose of live rock:
"For the aquarium trade this rock is highly valued not only for the diversity of life it can bring to the closed marine environment, but its function as a superior biological filter that hosts both aerobic and anaerobic nutrifying bacteria required for the nitrogen cycle that processes waste. Live rock becomes the main biological nitrification base or biological filter of a saltwater aquarium."

I know of at least one very experienced, and diligent, and expert fish lover & keeper that keeps unfiltered set-ups, with no ill effects...
it would be the same thing as plants is talking about in fw. very lightly stocked with lots of plants. again his warning....

Again, NOT for the beginning hobbyist!

I have successfully kept a filterless heavily planted 60 gallon tank that was lightly stocked and only did minimal maintenance, 50% WC every 2 weeks.

Bear in mind that the 60 gallon was literally STUFFED with plants and had powerheads and a heater.

I agree. All fish need filters and heaters even those that some believe would be fine without them.None should ever be kept in a bowl even with daily water changes.
