fish that people seem to love but you dont care for

I have to stand up for my mollies, lol. Of course I am talking sailfins, they are brightly colored, and they have just awesome little personalities. Balloon mollies and some of the other variants I would not touch with a ten foot pole.

I also DO like fancy goldies, to an extent. I prefer telescopes and regular fantails, and I drool over tosakins. I do have to admit a soft spot for pearlscales.

It took me a long time to jump on the cory bandwagon, but I have to say that I do not regret my group of False Network cories with their beautiful irridescent green sheen.

I am not a fan of most gouramis, but my Blue Paradise is a beautiful fish with a great curious personality.

I do not like danios, rasboras, tetras, cichlids (excluding angels, I have a couple and I love them) especially blood parrots. Yuck. I do not care for bubble eye goldies, ranchus or lionheads. Common plecos, CAEs and bala sharks are also on my no list.

Hate guppies all you want, lol, I love my Blue Moscows.

I don't like genetically altered fish, like the google eyed goldies, tatooted/dyed, plain jane fishies with no color, finiky/weak strained fish and big lugs with no attitudes.

I love the weird and unusual, snake/eel bodies, knot headed fish(dont know why but I think it is cute, like flowerhorns). And when you have carnivors such as oscars/bichirs/large mouthed cichlids, I like to raise my own guppies-solves that overpopulating problem.

I'm suprised by all the gourami hate going around! I LOVE gouramis. They're majestic and serene. I love when they reach out with their feelers and try to touch your hand against the glass.

what I don't like: platies and standard mollies (like sailfins a lot) just too boring. hatchets. HATE HATCHETS. They looks rediculous...I don't understand them at all. Black skirt tetras. Neon tetras. Parrot fish or any other strange cichlid, Flowerhorns, etc. any species of glass fish, ESPECIALLY if it's dyed.

I just remembered about Otos. They are cheap, people like em here, but they don't interest me at all. whenever I got to a new store I look for them to convince myself to buy em, but I never to. They are boring.

I read a couple posts saying that gourami's just "hang" there. I think that is what is appealing to me.

Kind of like a fishy Ben Stein? Their boringness is what makes them interesting?

That's why I want one- something pretty that will contrast with the activity of my crazy-active aquarium. There really are some beautifull Gourami- and I think they're fine in a community tank.

I can't imagine anything more boring than a Gourami species tank.

Some gouramis are actually interesting to watch interact with one another. I also love seeing them feel everything ( including other fish) with their pelvic fins, it's cute to me :)

I dislike goldfish with pockets of skin around their eyes and crooked spines. I wouldn't mind having a common pleco if they stayed around 3-4 inches. I don't think I'll ever get into keeping african cichlids (mbuna or whatever they're called). Their coloring seems to usually consist of only yellows, blues and light tans. I know people keep them mainly for their interesting behavior over their coloration, but I think I'd get sick of seeing the same 3 or so colors on every fish in my tank.

i personally will stand up for my black mollies, simply becuase they contrast the other fish.

my golden gourami actually doesnt 'hang there' he always is somewhere different. an eels, come on. whats wrong with them. they are interesting fish.

but platys, guppies, reg. plecos, they are all boring. esp. the reg pleco, cause it seems as if you are new to aquariums, you are bound to own one.

haha.

great thread

I CANNOT STAND zebra danios.... you just look at them zipping everywhere and you're like: "AAARG! SIT STILL!!" I'm not a huge tetra fan either, they sit there and they do this little like, jumping motion every few seconds as if they keep falling asleep and someone just keeps tapping them and the'yre like: "zzz.. WHAT?? zzz...WHAT?" it kinda gets on my nerves lol. I'm also not a fan of genetically modified ANYTHING, let alone fish (that includes dyed ones, and ugly ones like baloon mollies or blood parrots). Everyone's constantly saying "OMG CORIES" but they don't really do much for me, same with guppies. I also like gouramis with those little stick thingies they have (LOL), same with most anabatids (like bettas). I am surprised at all the cichlid and goldfish hate goin around too! There's probably more but I'm kinda drawing a blank here so I should shut up before I start rambling. LOL
