fishless cycling help!

do you recommend any nice looking schooling fish? chichilids?

No on the cichlids. Most the colourful ones grow too big for a 30 gallon.

I think neon tetras would be a wonderful small schooling fish. Other kinds of tetras too.

you could get a nice school of seven smaller tetras or harlequin rasboras, Three cory cats and a smaller pleco (bristlenose or clown pleco).

From what I read, you could do a bunch of schooling fish and some bottom feeders, then have a centerpiece.

People here tend to favor Blue Rams (which I love) or Gouramis. I'm a newbie, so I wouldn't be the best person for advice, but maybe one of the experts can comment on my contribution?
